Bae Doona (Korean pronunciation; born October 11, 1979) is a South Korean actress and photographer. Bae first became known outside Korea for her roles as the protagonist's political activist girlfriend Cha Young-mi in Park Chan-wook's Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002), as archer Park Nam-joo in Bong Joon-ho's The Host (2006), and as an inflatable sex doll-come-to-life in Hirokazu Koreeda's Air Doll (2009). She then had a starring role as the revolutionary clone Sonmi~451 in the film Cloud Atlas (2012), directed by The Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer.
Life and career[edit]
Bae was born in Seoul, South Korea. Growing up, Bae would follow her mother, Kim Hwa-young, a famous stage actress in Korea, around the theater and rehearsal halls, learning the lines of dialogue as she went along. This did not initially lead Bae towards acting, saying: "People might say that since my mother is a theater actor, I became an actress. But to me, those experiences probably had the opposite effect. On the contrary, because I saw many great actors working with my mother, I thought this was a job only people with extraordinary talent could do."
A Hanyang University student in 1998, Bae was scouted by a model talent agency while walking in Seoul. This led to modeling clothing for COOLDOG's catalog, amongst others. In 1999 she made the switch to acting, debuting in the TV drama School. Later that year, she appeared as the ghost in The Ring Virus, a Korean remake of the Japanese horror film Ring.[4]
In 2000, director Bong Joon-ho cast her in the film Barking Dogs Never Bite for her willingness to do the part without makeup, something other South Korean actresses were unwilling to do. In Kim So-young's documentary Women's History Trilogy (2000–2004), Bae stated her admiration for veteran South Korean actress Yoon Jeong-hee; Yoon returned the compliment, saying "Bae Doo-na owns her world." In this same documentary, Bae shared how her own most memorable scene was being chased by the homeless man throughout the apartment in Barking Dogs Never Bite. That same year she gave a risque performance (albeit with a body double for the more intense scenes) in Plum Blossom, and slowly started getting more work on television.
This was followed by two more critical successes, 2001's Take Care of My Cat, directed by Jeong Jae-eun, and 2002's Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, directed by Park Chan-wook.
2003 was less kind to Bae, as she saw both Tube and Spring Bears Love flop at the box office. After completing principal photography on Spring Bears Love, Bae decided to take time off from film, saying: "I never lived even once without having anything to do. The moment a film was presented to the press, I was almost always already shooting the next one [...] I thought by myself: now my first cycle is really over. While I rest a little, I wanted to make a fresh new start."

During her hiatus from the big screen, Bae took up photography, much of which can be seen between her official blog and her published photo-essay books. She also continued to work on TV, starring in Country Princess and Rosemary. Bae finally stepped onto a theater stage in 2004, for a production of Sunday Seoul (not to be confused with the South Korean movie of the same title), a play co-written by Park Chan-wook.

In 2005 Bae gave a memorable turn as an exchange student who joins a band in the Japanese film Linda Linda Linda, then played a divorced woman in the experimental omnibus TV series Beating Heart.
Bae Doona promoting The Host in 2006.
She reunited with Bong Joon-ho in 2006's The Host, which became the highest grossing film in South Korean box office history. For her role, she trained in archery for months that she was told if she really wanted, she had enough talent to make it at an amateur level. She then returned to television, through the series Someday and How to Meet a Perfect Neighbor.
After winning accolades for Air Doll, a 2009 film by Japanese director Hirokazu Koreeda about an inflatable sex doll that develops a soul and falls in love, Bae made back-to-back TV series in 2010, playing a high school teacher in Master of Study, and a night club singer in weekend drama Gloria.
Her 2012 sports film As One was based on the true story of the world table tennis championship held in Chiba, Japan in 1991 where North Korean player Ri Bun-hui and South Korean player Hyun Jung-hwa overcame their difficulties and came together to defeat the unbeatable Chinese team. Bae and co-star Ha Ji-won were trained by Hyun herself, and Bae learned to play left-handed like Ri. Afterwards she made a brief appearance in the science fiction film Doomsday Book.
Bae made her English-language, Hollywood debut in Cloud Atlas, as Sonmi~451, a clone in dystopian Korea. She also played the minor roles of Tilda Ewing, the daughter of a slave-holder and wife of an abolitionist in pre-Civil War America, and a Mexican woman who kills an assassin out to murder a journalist and a whistleblower who are trying to expose a nuclear plant safety cover-up. Co-directed by The Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer, the US$100 million adaptation of David Mitchell's novel premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival to divisive reviews, though Bae's performance was unanimously praised by critics. The Wachowskis later cast her again in a supporting role in their next science fiction film Jupiter Ascending.
Back in Korea, Bae next starred in the 2014 film Dohee-ya (released internationally as A Girl at My Door), directed by July Jung and produced by Lee Chang-dong. Playing a small-town police officer who tries to save a mysterious young girl she suspects is a victim of domestic violence, Bae said she was so fascinated by the story and emotionally challenging role that she decided to star in the movie without pay three hours after reading the script. The film premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, which Bae attended with British actor Jim Sturgess, whom she began dating in 2012 after they appeared together in Cloud Atlas.A Hanyang University student in 1998, Bae was scouted by a model talent agency while walking in Seoul. This led to modeling clothing for COOLDOG's catalog, amongst others. In 1999 she made the switch to acting, debuting in the KBS TV drama School. Later the same year she appeared as Eun-suh in The Ring Virus, a Korean remake of the Japanese horror film Ring.
In 2000, director Bong Joon-ho cast her as Hyeon-nam in the film Barking Dogs Never Bite for her willingness to do the part without makeup, something other South Korean actresses were unwilling to do. In Kim So-young's documentary Women's History Trilogy (2000–2004), Bae notes her admiration for veteran South Korean actress Yoon Jeong-hee. In 2010 she won accolades for Air Doll, a film by Japanese director Hirokazu Koreeda about an inflatable sex doll that develops a soul and falls in love.
Her sports film Korea (tentative title) co-starring Ha Ji-won is set to open in theaters in fall 2011. The movie is based on the true story of the world table tennis championship held in Chiba, Japan in 1991 where North Korean player Li Bun-hui (Bae) and South Korean player Hyun Jung-hwa (Ha) overcame their difficulties and came together to defeat the Chinese team.
Bae will make her Hollywood debut in Cloud Atlas as Sonmi~451, a clone in dystopian Korea. Co-directed by The Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer, the $150 million adaptation of David Mitchell's novel has begun filming and Warner Bros. is eyeing an October 2012 release.

Vyjayanthimala Bali (born 13 August 1936), also known by the mononym Vyjayanthimala, is an Indian film actress, Bharathanatyam dancer, Carnatic singer, dance choreographer and parliamentarian. She made her debut in the Tamil language film Vazhkai in 1949 and in the Telugu Film Jeevitham in 1950 later became one of the most prominent actresses of South India and the golden era in Bollywood;
Vyjayanthimala was one of the biggest Bollywood stars in a career lasting almost two decades. She was also the first south Indian actress to become a national star and "paved a way" for other south Indian actresses to foray into Bollywood. Vyjayanthimala is an accomplished dancer and was one of those who introduced semi-classical dance to Bollywood. Her subsequent dance numbers in her films had earned her the title of "twinkle toes". She was also referred to as one of the first female superstars of Hindi cinema and was known as "Numero Uno actress" for her "illustrious career in 1950s and 1960s".She was born in Triplicane situated near Parthasarathy Temple in an orthodox and religious Tamil Brahmin family to M. D. Raman and Vasundhara Devi. Her mother was a leading actress in Tamil Cinema in 1940s where her film Mangama Sabatham was the first ever Tamil film to be declared a "colossal" hit at the box office. She used to call her mother by her name as her mother was only 16 years older than her. Similarly, she also called her father "Anna", meaning elder brother, as her father happened to be the eldest in their family and everyone called him "Anna" which is common in a Hindu joint family. She was raised primarily by her maternal grandmother, Yadugiri Devi, and M.D. Raman. She was also known as "Papakutty", which means little child. Her ancestors were from Mysore (now in Karnataka). In 1938, her grandfather Gopalacharya, the late Mandayam Dhati, started a nursing home on Narayan Shastri Road, Mysore.
At the age of five, Vyjayanthimala was chosen to perform a classical Indian dance for Pope Pius XII while her mother was an audience in 1940 at Vatican City.Vyjayanthi did her schooling from Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, Presentation Convent, Church Park, Chennai. She learned Bharata Natyam from Guru Vazhuvoor Ramiah Pillai and Carnatic music from Manakkal Sivaraja Iyer. She had her arangetram at the age of 13 and started performing in Tamil Nadu later.Daughter of Shri M.D.Raman and Shrimati Vasundhara Devi, Vyjayanthimala was born in Madras (Chennai) on August 13, 1936. Schooling was in Presentation Convent and Good Shepherd Convent, both in Madras. She started taking lessons in Bharatanatyam dancing from a very early age and was already performing on stage while still in high school. A family friend, Shri M.V.Raman, after watching her dance performance, launched her in AVM's Tamil film Vazhkai in 1949. Initially, Vyjayanthimala's orthodox family did not want her to enter the film industry. But eventually, her foresighted grandmother, Yadugiri Devi, who often watched over young Vyjayanthimala's life and guided her career, consented and let Vyjayanthimala play a role in Vazhkai. The film was such a great success that it was re-made in Telugu (Jeevitham). The Telugu version was also a hit. AVM Productions then decided to go to Bombay and do the film in Hindi. Vyjayanthimala was chosen to do the Hindi version too. Vyjayanthimala had the advantage of being fluent in Hindi as she had studied Hindi at Hindi Prachar Sabha in Madras. The Hindi version of the movie, Bahar, was released in 1951 and it was also a commercial success. Tamilian Vyjayanthimala thus entered the world of Bombay based Hindi films.
In her entire film career, which lasted for two decades, Vyjayanthimala has acted in 63 films all together. A complete list of her films can be found under Filmography. (It is to be noted that she has been credited in various ways in the film titles such as Vyjayanthimala, Vyjayantimala, Vijayanthimala, Vijayantimala, Vyjayanti Mala, Vaijayanthimala, Vaijayantimala, Vyjayanthimala Bali, Vyjayantimala Bali, and so forth.)
Vyjayanthimala is a professional Bharatanatyam dancer. She had become a movie actress and dominated the silver screen in the 1950's and 1960's. But then she got married, retired from films when she was at her peak, and went back to pursue her number one passion - dancing. She not only dances, she also choreographs and composes. In her own words, dancing took her around the world much more than the movies did. She has performed her art in many countries of the world. The most notable of them being her performances at:

The United Nations 20th Anniversary Celebrations of the Human Rights Day in 1969 in New York, USA. (She was the first Indian Dancer to ever give a Bharatanatyam recital at the United Nations.)
The International Opera House in Sydney, Australia.
The Adelaide Festival in Adelaide, Australia.
The Royal Opera Rallst Festival in Stockholm, Sweden.
The Holland Festival in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
The Autumn Festival in Paris, France.
Vyjayanthimala is also the recipient of many awards and honors. The most notable of them being:
Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award (1957) for Devdas (1955).
(She refused to accept this award on the grounds that her role was not of a supporting actress. She believed that her role was as important as the heroine's role in the movie.)
Filmfare Best Actress Award (1959) for Sadhna (1958).
Filmfare Best Actress Award (1962) for Gunga Jumna (1961).
Filmfare Best Actress Award (1965) for Sangam (1964).
Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award (1996)
The title "Padmashri" awarded by the Government of India in 1968.
Arasavai Natya Kalaingnar by Tamil Nadu Government for excellence in Natya.
Kalaimani Award given by Tamil Nadu Government in 1979.
Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1982.
The Degree of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) by the Annamalai University, Chennai in 1995.
Aside from being a dancer and an actress, Vyjayanthimala is an accomplised golfer. She was introduced to the game by her late husband, Dr. C.L.Bali (whom she had married on March 10, 1968). Vyjayanthimala has played in National Golf Championship (15 Handicap). Her interest in golf continues even today, and she was still playing in recent years when she was almost 70 years old or may be even older.
Vyjayanthimala is also interested in politics and has actively participated in Indian politics. She was elected to the Lok Sabha (Lower House of the Indian Parliament) twice and was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha (Upper House of the Indian Parliament) once. She was very close to the then Indian Prime Minister, Shrimati Indira Gandhi.
Vyjayanthimala, now over 70, still actively pursues her number one passion - dancing. She continues to do dance research and choreography and on special occasions even performs on stage. She is the Life President and Trustee of Natyalaya Academy of Classical Bharatanatyam and Music in her hometown Chennai. She is also the Founder Trustee of Dr. Bali Pharma Foundation - a charitable trust, to serve the poor and downtrodden and to look after the welfare of women and children. She has now distanced herself from the movie industry and Mumbai (Bombay).
Vyjayanthimala has one son, Suchindra Bali, who is currently trying to establish himself as an actor in the glamorous movie industry of Bollywood.
Acting career
When director M. V. Raman was looking for a new face to cast in AVM Productions's Vazhkai, he saw Vyjayanthimala performing Bharata Natyam in Chennai's Gokhale Hall. He tried to convince her grandmother, who was apprehensive about Vyjayanthimala joining films as she felt it would come in the way of her education and dance. Vyjayanthimala played a college girl named Mohana Shivashankaralingam and acted along with senior actors S. V. Sahasranamam, M. S. Draupadi, T. R. Ramachandran and K. Sankarapani. The movie was a big success and was remade in Telugu after one year as Jeevitham with a slightly different cast, namely C. H. Narayana Rao, S. Varalakshmi and C. S. R. Anjaneyulu. This film also enjoyed great success upon release. For the Telugu version, Vyjayanthimala did her own voice dubbing with a little assistance from her father who knew Telugu well and coached her during the filming process. Vyjayanthimala also did a guest appearance in the 1950 film Vijayakumari which had actress T. R. Rajakumari in dual role. She danced for the song "laalu...laalu...laalu" which was choreographed by Vedantam Raghavaiah. Though the film was not a commercial success but her western-style of dance became popular and was considered as one of the major highlights of the film.
The success of her Tamil film Vazhkai in South India inspired AVM Productions to remake it in Hindi as Bahar in 1951. In their first Hindi venture, they decided to cast Vyjayanthimala again in the lead role with Karan Dewan, Om Prakash and Pandari Bai (who was credited as Padmini in the film). She learned Hindi at the Hindi Prachar Sabha to dub her own voice for her character in the film. Upperstall.com in their review, wrote that "She does bring the film to life with her dances though, something which was new then for the North Indian audience".The film became sixth highest grossing film of 1951 with a verdict of box-office hit.
After the success of all her debut films in all three languages, Vyjayanthimala again acted in multilingual film which was produced by Avichi Meiyappa Chettiar of AVM Productions. The first version was in Tamil as Penn where she co-starred with actor Gemini Ganesan, S. Balachandran and Anjali Devi. The song "Kalyanam...venum" sung by J. P. Chandrababu for S. Balachandran became an instant hit. The second version was in Telugu titled Sangham which was released in the same year with N. T. Rama Rao, Vyjayanthimala, S. Balachandran and Anjali Devi in the lead. The Tamil and the Telugu films were big successes across South India. The film was once again remade in Hindi as Ladki starring Bharat Bhushan, Kishore Kumar while Vyjayanthimala along with Anjali Devi reprised her role from the original film. Her performance was described by Upperstall.com as, "Vyjayanthimala's dances are the film's saving grace although it is unintentionally funny now to see how deliberate and obviously tacky the sequences are which lead into her dances[...]Ladki too makes no real demands on 'feminist' tomboy Vyjayanthimala histrionically". The movie became second highest grossing film of 1953.

Tabu was born in Hyderabad to Jamal Hashmi and Rizwana. Soon after, her parents divorced. Her mother was a school teacher and her maternal grandparents were retired professors who ran a school. Her grandfather, Mohammed Ahsan, was a professor of Mathematics, and her grandmother was a professor of English Literature. She went to St. Anns high school in Hyderabad. Tabu moved to Mumbai in 1983 and studied at St. Xavier's College for two years.
She is the niece of Shabana Azmi and Baba Azmi and the younger sister of actress Farah Naaz. She speaks Urdu, Telugu, Hindi and English.Tabu Hashmi was born on November 4, 1970 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India) is an award-winning Indian actress who has acted in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi and American films. She has won the National Film Award for Best Actress twice. She is best known for her critically acclaimed acting in a number of films rather than achieving box office success.
Despite a few exceptions, Tabu is known best for her willingness to play characters in artistic, low-budget films that go on to garner more critical appreciation than they do substantial box office figures such as in Maqbool (2003), Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities (2004) or The Namesake (2007). Known to be selective on her film roles, she has said, "I do films which move me and most of all, the unit and the director should appeal to me."
Tabu was born in Hyderabad. Soon after, her parents divorced. Her mother was a school teacher and her maternal grandparents were retired professors who ran a school. Her grandfather, Mohammed Ahsan was a Mathematics professor and her grandmother was an English Literature professor. she also went to St. Anns high school in Hyderabad. Tabu moved to Mumbai in 1983 and studied at St. Xavier's College for two years.
She is the niece of Shabana Azmi and the younger sister of actress Farha Naaz. She has homes in Mumbai and Hyderabad.
Tabassum "Tabu" Hashmi began her career in the film Hum Naujawan (1985) at the age of fifteen; she played Dev Anand's daughter in the film. Her first role as an actress was in the Telugu film Coolie No. 1. Her first release in Hindi as a leading lady was Pehla Pehla Pyar which went un-noticed. She came into prominence with her role in Vijaypath (1994) opposite Ajay Devgan for which she received the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. This was followed by many films that did not do well at the box office.
In 1996, Tabu had eight releases. Two films Saajan Chale Sasural and Jeet went on to be hits; both were within the top five films of that year. Her other significant film, Maachis, was critically acclaimed. Her role as a Punjabi woman caught in the rise of Sikh insurgency was acclaimed; she went on to win her first National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance.
Tabu first release of 1997 was Border. The movie was about the real life events surrounding the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. She played the role of Sunny Deol's wife. Her role was small but the film went on to be the biggest hit of 1997. That year, she also starred in the critically acclaimed film Virasat. The film was an average success at the box office; Tabu won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance.
In 1999, she starred in two successful multi-starrer films Biwi No.1 and Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United. Both were the first and second biggest hits of that year respectively. In 2000, the actress starred in Hera Pheri and Astitva. The former was a box office success whilst the latter was critically acclaimed. She received her third Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance for Astitva.
2001 saw her star in Chandni Bar directed by Madhur Bhandarkar. Her portrayal of a bar dancer met with unanimous praise, and she won her second National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance. Critic, Taran Adarsh said, "Chandni Bar is Tabu's film all the way and there are no two opinions on that. Her performance deserves the highest marks and of course, all the awards. Her work is flawless and the impact her character makes on the minds of the viewer is also due to a tailor-made role". Another critic mentioned, "if there is one actress who can carry a film on her shoulders, it is Tabu. As usual, she sparkles".
She has acted in a number of Telugu movies, many of them very successful, such as Coolie No. 1 and Ninne Pelladutha, the latter being one of her most famous and popular movies.
In 2003, Tabu starred in an adaptation of William Shakespeare's Macbeth. The actress played Nimmi based on the character Lady Macbeth. The film titled Maqbool was directed by Vishal Bharadwaj and premiered at the 2003 Toronto International Film Festival. Maqbool was a box office failure but was met with huge acclaim. Tabu's performance opened to much appreciation; critic Ron Ahluwalia said, "Tabu shines in a dark role. The most versatile actress in Bollywood takes to villainy like a second nature. She is menacing and seductive, but keeps an innocent look on her face, making her even viler. The way Tabu delivers her taunts simply perfect. Her gradual insanity is heart-wrenching and her final outburst is easily the highlight of the film." Another critic said, "Tabu is fantastic in a complex role. Her performance in the film is worthy of awards. After Chandni Bar, this is another role that will be remembered for a long, long time."
She had a supporting role in Fanaa (2006), with Aamir Khan and Kajol. The film went on to become the fourth biggest hit of that year.

In 2007, Tabu starred in her first Hollywood film, The Namesake, directed by Mira Nair. The film was a huge hit overseas. She also starred in Cheeni Kum in which she played a 34 year-old woman who falls in love with a 64 year-old played by Amitabh Bachchan. Critics were generally positive towards the film; Taran Adarsh said, "Tabu stands on her feet despite a formidable co-star's domineering presence. She's excellent." Though the film did not do as well domestically, it was a huge hit overseas especially in UK and USA.
She is the life member of International Film And Television Club of Asian Academy Of Film and Television, Noida.
In 1998, Tabu was charged with poaching two blackbucks in Kankani during the filming of Hum Saath Saath Hain along with co-stars Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre and Neelam. The charges were dropped soon after and Tabu was acquitted.

Shelley Lee Long (born August 23, 1949) is an American actress, best known for her role as Diane Chambers in the sitcom Cheers, for which she received five Emmy nominations, winning in 1983 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She also won two Golden Globe Awards for the role. Long reprised her role as Diane Chambers in four episodes of the spinoff Frasier, for which she received an additional guest star Emmy nomination.
From 2009 to 2012, she had a recurring role as DeDe Pritchett on the ABC comedy series Modern Family.
Long has also starred in several films, notably Night Shift (1982), her Golden Globe nominated role in Irreconcilable Differences (1984), The Money Pit (1986), Outrageous Fortune (1987), Hello Again (1987), Troop Beverly Hills (1989), The Brady Bunch Movie (1995), A Very Brady Sequel (1996) and Dr. T & the Women (2000).Shelley Long was born in Grandview, Indiana on August 23, 1949. She is the daughter of Evandine, a school teacher, and Leland Long, who worked in the rubber industry before becoming a teacher. She was active on her high school speech team, competing in the Indiana High School Forensic Association, and in 1967 she won the National Forensic League National Championship in Original Oratory. She delivered a speech on the need for sex education in high school entitled, "Sex Perversion Weed." After graduating from South Side High School in Fort Wayne, she studied drama at Northwestern University, but left before graduating to pursue a career in acting and modelling. Her first break as an actress occurred when she began doing commercials in the Chicago area.Undeterred, Long finally gained some real recognition when she memorably portrayed a hooker with the proverbial heart of gold in Ron Howard's directing debut, "Night Shift" (1982) opposite Henry Winkler and Michael Keaton. As Belinda Keaton, she was surprisingly appealing despite heavy eye make-up and the bottle blonde crimped hairdo she sported throughout the film. Now on a hot streak, she followed up with the comedy "Losin' It" (1983), one of the first movie roles for its young up-and-coming star, Tom Cruise. In the film, about a group of teenage boys' quest for a good time on a trip to Mexico, Long was a woman seeking a divorce who finds herself on the road with the rowdy crew. But it was on the small screen that Long received the biggest break of her career, where she was cast to play barmaid Diane Chambers on the Boston-set sitcom, "Cheers' (NBC, 1982-1993). Long's Diane was portrayed as upper class and erudite, standing in stark contrast to bar regulars like Norm (George Wendt) and Cliff (John Ratzenberger) as well as fellow employees Carla (Rhea Perlman), Coach (Nicholas Colasanto) and bar owner Sam Malone (Ted Danson).
For five seasons, Long played Diane Chambers to great appeal and fanfare, particularly in regard to her chemistry with Danson which propelled the show to the top of the ratings with their will-they-won't-they romance. Over those five seasons, Long received four Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and won a the award in 1983, the first year she was nominated. At the same time she triumphed on the small screen, Long's film career finally began to blossom. In 1984, she earned award recognition for her turn as a would-be writer who buries her ambitions when she marries another writer (Ryan O'Neal) whose own career takes off in "Irreconcilable Differences" (1984). Following that success, she starred opposite Tom Hanks in the critically maligned, but commercially successful comedy "The Money Pit" (1986) and maintained her box office appeal alongside Bette Midler in the hit comedy, "Outrageous Fortune" (1987). But with her film career in full swing and "Cheers" at the height of its popularity, Long decided to leave the show in 1987 to concentrate on features full time. Fans of Sam and Diane were disappointed and rumors swirled that her cast mates were not happy with her decision. But she was undeterred and after a tearful goodbye - when Diane backed out of her engagement to Sam - Long's days as "Cheers" series regular were over.
Expectations were high after she left her sitcom and Long failed to live up to them. Her first post-sitcom project, "Troop Beverly Hills," (1989) was a misguided effort that became a critical and commercial dud. With critics of her departure from "Cheers" relishing the failure, the actress suddenly found her popularity waning as she starred in other disasters like "Don't Tell Her It's Me" (1990) and "Frozen Assets" (1992). While Long was experiencing high-profile setbacks, her replacement Kirstie Alley, who played new bar manager Rebecca Howe, was welcomed by the cast, critics and fans as a more-than-suitable replacement for Diane Chambers. Although her departure from the show was rumored to have been less than amicable, Long returned for the highly-rated series finale in 1993, earning another Emmy nod - this time as a guest star - for reprising the pretentious Chambers. She would go on to play her iconic role again in several episodes of the popular spin-off "Frasier" (NBC, 1993-2004), which starred Kelsey Grammer as Dr. Frasier Crane, one of Diane's former suitors.
In an attempt to rescue her flagging career, Long chose to take on playing the 1970s most iconic mom, Carole Brady, in the big screen version of the popular series, "The Brady Bunch Movie" (1995). The move paid off as Long was once again cast in favorable light, while the film became a hit while riding a wave of growing interest in nostalgic television. Long followed up by playing the mom in the Disney Channel's version of "Freaky Friday" (1995), a made-for-television remake of the 1976 feature film original about a mother and daughter (Gaby Hoffmann) who switch bodies. She also began a successful series of guest turns, including appearances in episodes of "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" (ABC, 1993-97), "Murphy Brown" (CBS, 1988-1998), "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" (syndicated, 1996-2003) and "Diagnosis Murder" (CBS, 1993-2001), while reprising Carol Brady for "A Very Brady Sequel" (1996). Following a turn opposite Richard Gere in the less-than-successful Robert Altman film "Dr. T and the Women" (2000), Long returned to the small screen for occasional guest spots on "8 Simple Rules," (ABC, 2002-05) and "Strong Medicine" (Lifetime, 2000- ), but in general stayed under the radar.
Following another turn as Carol Brady, this time in the TV movie "The Brady Bunch in the White House" (Fox, 2002), Long surprised fans when personal troubles bubbled over in public, starting with her 2004 divorce from long-time second husband Bruce Tyson, whom she had married in 1981. Just months following her divorce, Long was rushed to UCLA Medical Center following an overdose of painkillers that were prescribed for a back injury. According to friends, she had been suffering from depression after Tyson walked out on their marriage, leading to unconfirmed speculation that her overdose was a suicide attempt. Following her recovery, Long appeared in episodes of "Boston Legal" (ABC, 2004-08) and "Yes, Dear" (CBS, 2000-06) while being featured in forgettable films like "Honeymoon with Mom" (2006) and "The Last Guy on Earth" (2006). In 2007, her personal struggled re-emerged as the star quietly admitted herself into an outpatient mental treatment facility, leading some tabloids to conclude that she was suffering from a mental collapse. Once again, Long recovered and resumed her career, starring in the holiday-themed TV movie "A Holiday Engagement" (Hallmark Channel, 2011) while delivering a hilarious turn as Jay's (Ed O'Neill) mentally unstable ex-wife in several episodes of "Modern Family" (ABC, 2009-
Diane on the TV show Cheers
Shelley Long starred in the popular television comedy Cheers as the uptight waitress Diane Chambers. (Chambers was the love interest, and comic foil, for the bartender Sam Malone, played by Ted Danson.) In spite of the ongoing success of the show, Shelley Long quit in 1987 to focus on her movie career, with famously uneven results. Her films include the morgue comedy Night Shift (1982, with Michael Keaton), Irreconcilable Differences (1984, with her character sued for divorce by daughter Drew Barrymore), the Girl Scout-ish comedy Troop Beverly Hills (1989), the sitcom-inspired The Brady Bunch Movie (1995, with Long as mother Carol) and A Very Brady Sequel (1996), and Honeymoon With Mom (2006). She began a recurring role in the TV show Modern Family in 2010.
Extra credit:
Shelley Long married investment broker Bruce Tyson in 1981. Their daughter Juliana was born in 1985. They were divorced in 2001... Shelley Long's character on Cheers was briefly engaged to Dr. Frasier Crane (played by Kelsey Grammer), who later was the central character of the hit show Frasier (1994-2004)... As Diane Chambers, Long was nominated for a total of six Emmys, five for Cheers and one for Frasier... Long was taken to the hospital after a drug overdose in 2004; her manager later said she had simply taken too many painkillers for relief from a back injury... Shelley Long attended Northwestern University but did not graduate.

Birth Name: Kate Beckinsale
Born: 07/26/1973
Birth Place: London, England, GB
Born on July 26, 1973 in London, England, Beckinsale was the daughter of comic Richard Beckinsale - who died when she was five years old - and actress Judy Loe. She pursued her education at Godolphin & Latymer School, then Oxford University, where she studied French and Russian literature, as well as took up acting. Beckinsale, however, spent a good portion of her teen years struggling with an eating disorder - of which she later spoke frankly of in interviews - before she decided to try her hand at acting. Meanwhile, after making her debut in a bit part in the mystery "Devices and Desires" (BBC, 1991), she landed the pivotal role of the rebellious daughter of a British woman (Judy Davis) involved with the French Resistance during WWII in "One Against the Wind" (CBS, 1991). Once she had become established as an ingénue with "Much Ado About Nothing," Beckinsale carefully crafted a career path that would not find her typecast.

Born on July 26, 1973 in London, England, Beckinsale pursued her education at Godolphin & Latymer School, then Oxford University, where she took up acting. In "Royal Deceit/The Prince of Jutland" (1994), which was based on the Danish prince whose life inspired Shakespeare's "Hamlet," she starred opposite Christian Bale. A lighter, more charming side to the actress was displayed in "Marie-Louise, or The Leave" (1995), in which she played a young woman searching for her lover in a crowded train station. Beckinsale delivered a strong turn as the meddlesome orphan taken in by eccentric relatives in the brittle comedy "Cold Comfort Farm" (also 1995). As Flora Poste, she anchored the film and managed to make a busybody character seem charming, and in some ways it was a warm-up for her tackling "Jane Austen's Emma" (BBC/AE, 1996). Although Douglas McGrath's feature version starring Gwyneth Paltrow had opened on American screens first, this version found its partisans who felt it was more faithful to the spirit of Austen.

Capitalizing on the sass and intelligence she had projected in both "Cold Comfort Farm" and "Jane Austen's Emma", Beckinsale shone as an aristocratic med student who falls in with two charming con men (Dan Futterman and Stuart Townsend) in the underrated caper flick "Shooting Fish" (1997). Adopting a flawless American accent, the actress next registered as the bitchy junior publishing executive seeking fun and perhaps Mr. Right in Whit Stillman's "The Last Days of Disco" (1998). The following year, Beckinsale retained the Americanisms to portray a mousy tourist in Thailand who falls for a slick Australian, dragging herself and her traveling companion (Claire Danes) into accusations of drug smuggling in "Brokedown Palace." After time out for motherhood, she returned to the big screen as Nick Nolte's daughter in the Merchant Ivory adaptation of Henry James'"The Golden Bowl" (2000).

The attractive actress finally had a shot at more mainstream success with two high profile leading roles in 2001. In the big-budget epic "Pearl Harbor," she was cast as a US Navy nurse who falls in love with a dashing pilot (Ben Affleck) but when news of his death arrives turns to his best friend (Josh Hartnett) for comfort. And Beckinsale was cast opposite John Cusack in the mildly engaging romantic comedy "Serendipity," playing a woman who believes more in fate than love at first sight and faces a long but seemingly inevitable road to romance. The actress surfaced again in 2003 in the arty indie "Laurel Canyon" as the icy fiancée of an L.A. native (Christian Bale) who returns to his eclectic mother's home in Laurel Canyon, where Beckinsale's character slowly becomes seduced by the sultry Los Angeles lifestyle.

Her highest profile role to date came in "Underworld" (2003), a glossy supernatural thriller with Romeo-and-Juliet overtones, in which Beckinsale played Selene, a vampire embroiled in her kind's long feud with a werewolf clan who falls in love with one of her blood enemies (Scott Speedman). Beckinsale followed up with another action-packed supernatural thriller, teaming with Hugh Jackman for "Van Helsing" (2004), in which she played Anna Valerious, a vampire slayer from a long line committed to ending the reign of Count Dracula who teams with the count's longtime human foe. The actress was better served by her next project, director Martin Scorsese's Howard Hughes glamorous and visually arresting biopic "The Aviator" (2004), in which the actress provided a sultry spark as the fiery film icon Ava Gardner, Hughes' (Leonardo DiCaprio) most challenging, yet sympathetic, paramour.

Beckinsale next revived the vampire Selene for the sequel, "Underworld: Evolution" (2006), as vampires and werewolves battle each other for ultimate control of the undead. As the violence between the two warring factions increases, Selene and her werewolf beau, Michael (Scott Speedman), try to uncover the secrets of the conflict while delving into their own pasts. Despite poor reviews, "Underworld: Evolution" managed to rake in a descent payday. Meanwhile, she starred opposite Adam Sandler in "Click" (2006), a middlebrow comedy about an overworked architect (Sandler) whose life seemingly changes for the better when a strange Bed, Bath and Beyond clerk gives him a universal remote that can pause, rewind or fast-forward anything - barking dog included. But as the remote gets stuck on fast-forward, causing him to miss all the important events in his life, he realizes that it's probably better to take the bad with the good rather than let his whole life pass before his eyes.

Returning to the horror genre - an apparent favorite for the actress - Beckinsale starred in "Vacancy" (2007), another in a long line of suspense thrillers released in the early part of the century. In this all-too-obvious take on "Psycho," Beckinsale played the soon-to-be ex-wife of a man (Luke Wilson) forced to spend the night at a seedy motel run by an odd, but seemingly harmless proprietor (Frank Whaley). But the couple soon discovers that the cache of homemade slasher flicks they have found were shot in the very room in which they are staying - both must put aside their differences and work together in order to avoid becoming the next victims of the sadistic filmmakers. While most horror thriller are brushed off by critics as being redundant and tedious, "Vacancy" received its fair share of positive reviews. Meanwhile, she starred in "Snow Angels" (2008), playing a woman whose turbulent marriage to her husband (Sam Rockwell) recalls dark memories from the past, then followed with "Nothing But the Truth (2008), playing a jailed journalist who wrote an explosive about a government scandal and refused to divulge the name of her source when pressured by a special government prosecutor.

Focusing her attention on small films and other genres besides horror, Beckinsale starred in the psychological thriller "Whiteout" (2009), where she played a U.S. Marshal forced to find a vicious killer in Antarctica before the sun sets for six months winter. Critics were in agreement that "Whiteout" was tedious and formulaic, while audiences sought out other entertainment, resulting in the film's poor showing at the box office. Beckinsale went on to star opposite Drew Barrymore, Sam Rockwell and Robert De Niro in the low-budget drama, "Everybody's Fine" (2009), in which she played a successful Chicago advertising exec whose father (De Niro) drives across country to make amends with his four children following the death of their mother. Critics were mixed, as the film came and went in a limited release. Meanwhile, Beckinsale returned to larger studio projects with a turn as the girlfriend of a former smuggler (Mark Wahlberg) forced back into the life to settle a debt in the above-average action thriller "Contraband" (2012). After reprising Selene for the critically panned, but commercially successful "Underworld: Awakening" (2012), Beckinsale was Colin Farrell's fake wife in the high-profile remake of "Total Recall" (2012).

Career: His debut film, Nerrukku Ner (1997) with Vijay was a big hit but all his succeeding films did not do well. His first reasonable success was in the movie with Vijay, Friends. But he did not get any big breaks and his career seemed to be stalled until director Bala approached him for a role in his next venture titled Nandha. This was his first solo hit and Surya won his first filmfare award for best actor for this movie. Surya’s next venture was with Vikraman in the movie Unnai Ninathu and the movie was able to record good collections. This was followed by Mounam Pesiyadhe which also did decently well. Surya’s second blockbuster was Kaakha Kaakha, a movie about the life of a police officer. This movie raised the profile of Surya tremendously and made him a huge star overnight. This was also the movie that fueled intense speculation of his relationship with fellow co-star Jyothika. This was partly due to the strength of the screen chemistry shared by both of them on screen. Also Pithamagan alongside Vikram was a big hit, in which Surya was appreciated for playing a happy-go-lucky village guy and thus proving his skills as a comedian too. In the movie Perazhagan, Surya acted in two roles, one as a boxer and the other as a handicapped but a confident phone booth keeper. His role as the handicapped was praised by critics, and he received a Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his performance. His role in Aayitha Ezhuthu as a student leader was also favoured by the critics. In 2005, Surya delivered more successful films in the form of Aaru and Ghajini - afterwards he set up a production company called Studio Green along with his cousin K.E.Gnavelraja. Ghajini was one of the most sensational hits of 2005, with Surya playing a short term memory loss patient, for which he even tonsured his head. The film was his third blockbuster and grossed over Rs.200 million at the box office. Vanisri or Ratna Kumari (born 3 August 1948), also known as Vanisree or Vanishree, is a popular Telugu actress in the mid-1960s to the late 1970s. Her portfolio also includes Kannada and Tamil films.Vanisri was born in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, India in 1948. Actor S V Ranga Rao gave her screen name Vanisri. She gained attention with a supporting role in a film penned by K. Balachander titled Sukha Dukhalu (1967), where the famous song "Idi Mallela Velayani" was picturized on her. It led to her first starring role in Telugu films, Marapurani Kadha (1967). She remained a heroine after this film and held the top spot through most of the 1970s.
Vanisri had several super hit and silver jubilee movies, such as Krishnaveni(Telugu Remake of Kannada Movie Sharapanjara), Prem Nagar, Dasara Bullodu, Aradhana, Jeevitha Chakram, Rangula Ratnam, Sri Krishna Tulabharam, Bhakta Kannappa, and Bobbili Raja, etc. She played dual roles in Iddaru Ammayilu (1972)[Telugu Remake of 1969 release Kannada film Kappu Bilupu), Ganga Manga (1973 remake of the Hindi film Seeta Aur Geeta), Jeevana Jyothi (1975), and Chilipi Krishnudu (1978). She financed and starred in Shyam Benegal's only Telugu film Anugraham (1977), co-starring Smita Patil. She acted with Sivaji Ganesan in a number of films such as Uyarntha Manithan (1968), Nirai Kudam (1969), Vasantha Maligai (1972), Sivakamiyin Selvan (1974), Vani Rani (Tamil remake of the Hindi film Seeta Aur Geeta) (1974) and Nallathoru Kudumbam (1979). In the late 1970s, Vanisri left films to get married and have a son and a daughter.
Vanisri returned to film in the late 1980s acting in mother roles, such as her character in Athaku Yamudu Ammayiki Mogudu (1989). She was also in the 1999 hindi film Main Tere Pyar Mein Pagal directed by Telugu director K. Raghavendra Rao. She often portrays arrogant mothers-in-law or aunts. Vanisri has acted in television serials as well.

She also worked as politician in Congress party. Her early life was marred with tragic losses: three members of her family, including her father, died of tuberculosis in a span of one month. When her father was dying, he told her mother to give young Ratna and her older sister a good education before marriage. Her mother kept a farm and sold goats milk to support the family. She sent young Ratna and her older sister to Andhra Mahila Sabha in Madras to be educated. While her older sister did well enough to go onto college, Ratna's interest wasn't in her studies, but only in her bharat natyam dancing class. When she was 12 years old, she participated in a dance function at her school. In the audience was a Kannada film director, who thought she resembled actress Savithri Ganesh, then the top female star in South India. He offered Ratna the lead role in his Kannada film, and she took it despite her mother's initial objections. The film became a hit, and she was offered more Kannada and Tamil films. As her visibility grew, Telugu film offers came to but only for small roles. Nevertheless, she took them and acted in her first Telugu film "Bheeshma" (1962). Soon, S.V. Ranga Rao changed her name from Ratna Kumari to Vanisri, an inverse name of his company "Sri Vani Films." She continued with supporting roles and comedy roles in Telugu films, and she finally made an impact in a sister role in "Sukha Dukhalu" (1967), a film written by the important filmmaker K. Balachander. It was a tragedienne role, and she looked beautiful, especially in the song "Idi Mallela velayani." The song became a hit, the film became a hit, and she landed her first heroine role in "Marapurani Katha" (1967). She continued with Tamil and Kannada films and had a hit with the Tamil film "Paal Polave Vaan Meedhile " (1969) and the song "naalai intha velai paarthu" that was picturized on her won a National Award. She was now consistently landing heroine roles in all South Indian films with top leading men. She was confident when she turned down the sister role in "Aatmiyulu" (1969) and opted for the heroine role opposite ANR. The producer and director relented after a couple of months and gave into her, and "Aatmiyulu" became a hit. She became the topmost heroine in the 1970's with more hits like "Dasara bolludu," and Prem Nagar." Around this time, the South Indian film industry was gradually converting from black-and-white to color films, and Vanisri took full advantage of her appearance in color films. She wore bright costumes and applied heavy pancake makeup to cover up her dark complexion. She applied variety of lipsticks and bhindis. She experimented with different hairstyles, and her striking appearance soon caught on and she became the trendy, glamorous star. Even though, she was taken into films because of her facial resemblance to Savitri, she decided she wanted to be a completely different star than her. To do so, she slimmed down, even if the producers had favored a heavier, curvier look. However, her greatest asset was her highly photogenic face, and she was friendly with all her cameramen who made sure she looked her very best onscreen. But, she never sacrificed the substance of her roles for her decorative appearance. She played dramatic roles and title roles, including double roles in "Vani Rani,""Ganga Manga," Iddaru ammayulu" and Secretary. She won acting awards for her superlative performances in "Krishnaveni" and Jeevana Jyothi. Her fame had reached its peak in 1976, when Filmfare magazine decided to do a special feature on the Telugu film industry and put Vanisri on the cover. However, another shift was occurring within the film industry as well as within Vanisri herself. She was working 16 hours a day and working in 14 films a year without any time off. The filmmaker on "Edurelini Manishi" (1975) wanted her to dance and dress more provocatively, and she objected, and although he relented, Vanisri saw the writing on the wall. Newer filmmakers like K. Raghavendra Rao were opting for newer, younger heroines, and he made permanent stars out of three younger heroines: Jayaprada and Jayasudha in the blockbuster 'Adavi Ramudu' (1977), and 'Sridevi' in "Padaharale Vayausu' (1978). All three were vying for the top spot, the spot that Vanisri had held for nearly a decade. She knew her time was up, and she married her family doctor in 1979 and left films. Even then, she bend society's norms. She was 30, at a time when the average marrying age for a girl was in her early 20's. And she married someone who was slightly younger than her. Nevertheless, it was a lasting marriage, and she gave birth to a daughter Anupama, and son Abinaya Venkatesha Kartik. When she was pregnant with her son, she developed a thyroid problem and gained a lot of weight. Apart from her health problem, she also suffered from a longstanding court battle with her older sister and brother-in-law over property. They had handled her financial affairs when she was in films, and she had no knowledge of how much she earned and how much was spent. After a 12-year battle, the parties all reached a compromise and she and her sister's family reconciled. In 1989, Vanisri returned to films with "Athaku Yamudu Ammayiki Mogodu," where she had a supporting role as an arrogant mother-in-law. The film became a hit, and the audience welcomed her in more senior roles. Although, she continued with such roles, she kept her children away from films, and they both became doctors. Vanisri used her name and money for humanitarian causes, such as contributing to schools and setting up senior center. She is also involved in politics.

Taylor Babaian grew up in Los Angeles, California surrounded by beauty and fashion. She was infatuated with the idea of being able to make a woman beautiful through makeup. Growing up with strict older brothers she wasn't allowed to play with makeup, so she improvised. Taylor began to look at magazines and draw faces at the early age of seven. She really grasped the ability to understand the lines and contours of the face while experimenting with color. Taylor attributes her skill to these early study sessions. She started working in an upscale salon at the age of 18 and was managing it by the time she turned 21. In an effort to boost retail sales and get further involved in the business, Taylor began to do make up applications for clients. Her natural ability as a Makeup Artist developed.
Taylor is quite skilled at knowing and understanding make up for different face shapes, skin tones and types. She is especially talented at applying makeup on women of all ethnicities, and ages; particularly on Asian (her own heritage), African-American, and Latin skin. In addition, her advertising clients include Mercedes Benz, Tide, Paul Mitchell, Guess and Juicy Couture.
Taylor Babaian (TB): I grew up in South Los Angeles to immigrant parents, who held two to three jobs at a time. This meant us kids, who were two to eight years old, were often left alone for weeks and had to take care of ourselves. My parents split up and got back together often. During those splits, I went with my father and would stay in small apartments or his car. When I was fourteen, he left for good, and I got mixed up with a rebellious crowd and left home.
I finally got in touch with my father and moved to Seattle, where I lived with him at first on a sheet on the floor and did my homework on a cardboard box. From there, my girlfriend took me in, and I finished high school, receiving countless awards and a scholarship.
I worked three jobs while going to community college. At one of those jobs, I met and fell for a boy who was my best friend. After about a year, I got pregnant and reluctantly had to go to the welfare office to receive assistance for medical care.
By twenty-two, I was a mother of two, both having only three-week maternity leaves, and now managed a very busy full service salon, one of the three jobs I had. I was working almost 100 hours a week, and by twenty-three, I made the decision to become a celebrity makeup artist. I knew no one in the business, but I latched onto an agency that I felt was the most prestigious in the field. They turned me down several times, but I persisted, and, eventually, they took me in.
Sixteen years after that decision was made, I’m now working on mythird book and have a line in the top department stores in America. I’m still with the same agency and will be married nineteen years in November to the same boy. My kids attended one of the top public high schools in America. My daughter is in college, and my husband, returning to school, graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCLA. He will graduate from law school this May. The journey has been incredibly difficult, but all the work was worth it.
Taylor is most dedicated to educating and showing all women their own beauty. She is the author of ASIAN FACES, The Essential Beauty and Make up Guide for Asian Women, published August 2007 by Perigee Books/Penguin Group with the foreword by Yoko Ono. Her second book, STYLE EYES, August 2010 published by Penguin Books, is a top selling, first ever non branded, make up guide specializing on eyes; their shape, color, skin pigmentation and makeup application for all ages and skin tones. Style Eyes has been translated in Polish and is being published in Simple Chinese for Mainland China. She is currently working on her 3rd book to be published Fall 2014 by Berkley Publishing/PenguinGroup. Taylor is also founder of Kre-at Beauty Eyelashes which are sold at Barneys New York nationwide as well as select boutiques.

Rita Moreno (born December 11, 1931) is a Puerto Rican actress and singer. She is the only Hispanic and one of the few performers to have won all four major annual American entertainment awards, which include an Oscar, an Emmy, a Grammy and a Tony, and was the second Puerto Rican to win an Academy Award.Moreno, nicknamed "Rosita", was born Rosa Dolores Alverío in Humacao, Puerto Rico to Rosa María (née Marcano), a seamstress, and Francisco José "Paco" Alverío, a farmer. Moreno, whose mother was 17 at the time of her birth, was raised in nearby Juncos. Rita's mother moved to New York City in 1936, taking her daughter, but not her son, Rita's younger brother, Francisco. Rita would later adopt the surname of her first stepfather, Edward Moreno, Rosa Maria's second husband, by whom Rita would have a younger stepbrother, Dennis Moreno, who died in a car crash.Energetic dancer, singer, and actress Rita Moreno was born Rosa Dolores Alverio in Puerto Rico to a family of independent farmers. She moved to New York City with her mother at age five and went on to become one of the few people to win an Oscar, a Tony, an Emmy, and a Grammy throughout her long career. At age 13, she took her vibrant stage presence and star quality to Broadway, and by the next year she had made it to Hollywood, where MGM studio executives suggested she change her name to Rita.
Mostly appearing in musicals, her most notable roles of the '50s include Zelda Zanders the Zip Girl in Singin' in the Rain and Tuptim in The King and I. During this close-minded time period in American cinema, she was showcased for her "exotic" qualities in films like Pagan Love Song, Latin Lovers, and The Fabulous Señorita. She also starred in the costume drama The Vagabond King as well as various adventures and Westerns, usually providing the musical entertainment. Her big breakthrough came in 1961 with her role as the spitfire Anita in West Side Story, winning her an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress. During the '60s, she took her talents back to the stage and got married, but she did appear in the films Carnal Knowledge with Jack Nicholson and Popi with Alan Arkin. As a mother during the '70s, she turned to television and got involved with the PBS children's series The Electric Company, which led to a Grammy award for her recording contribution to the soundtrack album. She also won Emmy awards for her work on The Rockford Files and The Muppet Show. Meanwhile, she reprised her Tony-winning Broadway role of entertainer Googie Gomez for the 1976 film version of The Ritz. In the '80s, she appeared in the TV sitcom 9 to 5, the detective series B.L. Stryker, and several made-for-TV movies. In the '90s, she provided the voice for the title character in the PBS educational program Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego? She started making features again, taking supporting roles in independent comedy dramas, including Slums of Beverly Hills. In 1997, she turned to confrontational drama as Sister Peter Marie Reimondo on the HBO prison drama Oz. Since 2000, she has been a leading advocate of osteoporosis awareness and has appeared in the John Sayles ensemble feature Casa de los Babys in 2003.

In 2007, Moreno appeared in a cameo role on the hit series Ugly Betty, playing the title character's aunt. Later that same year, she joined the cast of the drama series Cane, a show about a Latin family and their trials and tribulations running a family owned business. In 2011 she was cast as one of the leads on the sitcom Happily Divorced alongside Fran Drescher. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, Rovi
U.S. actress Rita Moreno has had a thriving acting career for the better part of six decades. Moreno, one of the very few (and very first) performers to win an Oscar, an Emmy, a Tony, and a Grammy, was born Rosita Dolores Alverío in Humacao, Puerto Rico on December eleventh, 1931. She moved to New York City in 1937 along with her mother, where she began a professional career before reaching adolescence. The eleven-year-old Rosita got her first movie experience dubbing Spanish-language versions of U.S. films. Less than a month before her fourteenth birthday on November eleventh, 1945, she made her Broadway debut in the play "Skydrift" at the Belasco Theatre, costarring with Arthur Keegan and the young Eli Wallach. Although she would not appear again on Broadway for almost two decades, Rita Moreno, as she was billed in the play, had arrived professionally.
The cover of the March first, 1954 edition of "Life Magazine" featured a three-quarters, over-the-left-shoulder profile of the young Puerto Rican actress/entertainer with the provocative title "Rita Moreno: An Actresses' Catalog of Sex and Innocence." It was sex-pot time, a stereotype that would plague her throughout the decade. If not cast as a Hispanic pepper pot, she could rely on being cast as another "exotic", such as her appearance on Father Knows Best (1954) as an exchange student from India. Because of a dearth of decent material, Moreno as an actress had to play roles in movies that she considered degrading. Among the better pictures she appeared in were the classic Singin' in the Rain (1952) and The King and I (1956).
Filmmaker Robert Wise, who was chosen to codirect the movie version of the smash hit Broadway musical West Side Story (1961) (a retelling of Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet" with the warring Venetian clans the Montagues and Capulets reenvisioned as Irish/Polish and Puerto Rican adolescent street gangs, the Jets and the Sharks), cast Moreno as "Anita", the Puerto Rican girlfriend of Sharks' leader Bernardo, whose sister Maria is the piece's Juliet.

However, despite her proven talent, roles commensurate with that talent were not forthcoming in the 1960s. The following decade would prove kinder, possibly as the beautiful Moreno had aged and could now be seen by film-makers, T.V. producers and casting directors as something other than the spit-fire/sex-pot that Hispanic women were supposed to conform to. Ironically, it was in two vastly diverging roles -- that of a $100 hooker in director Mike Nichols brilliant realization of Jules Feiffer's acerbic look at male sexuality, Carnal Knowledge (1971) (1971) and that of Milly the Helper in the children's T.V. show The Electric Company (1971) (1971) -- that signaled a career renaissance.

During the seventies, Moreno won a 1972 Grammy Award for her contribution to "The Electric Company" soundtrack album, following it up three years later with a Tony Award as Best Featured Actress in a Musical for The Ritz (1976), a role she would reproduce on the Big Screen. She then won Emmy Awards for "The Muppet Show" and "The Rockford Files".
Thereafter, she has continued to work steadily on screen (both large and small) and on-stage, solidifying her reputation as a national treasure, a status that was officially ratified with the award of the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush in June 2004.
Broadway and television
Moreno's Broadway credits include The Last of the Red Hot Lovers, Gantry, The Ritz, for which she won the 1975 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress, and the female version of The Odd Couple. In 1993 she was invited to perform at President Bill Clinton's inauguration and later that month was asked to perform at the White House.
During the mid-1990s, Moreno provided the voice of Carmen Sandiego on Fox's animated series Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?
In 1995, she co-starred with Charlton Heston, Mickey Rooney, Deborah Winters and Peter Graves in the Warren Chaney docudrama, America: A Call to Greatness.
In the late 1990s, she gained exposure to a new generation of viewers when she played Sister Pete, a nun trained as a psychologist in the popular HBO series, Oz. She made a guest appearance on The Nanny as Coach Stone, Maggie's (Nicholle Tom) tyrannical gym teacher, whom Fran Fine also remembered from her school as Ms. Wickavich.

Regina Cassandra is an Indian film actress appearing in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films. She is best known for her roles in the Telugu films Shiva Manasulo Shruti and Routine Love Story.
Career[edit]
Regina's mother tongue is Tamil. She started anchoring when she was four for Splash, a kids' channel and then moved on to work in commercials. Nikita Sharma is an Indian television actress and model from New Delhi, best known for playing the female lead role of Antara Kaul in the television series, Do Dil Ek Jaan on Life OK.
Nikita Sharma was born and brought up in New Delhi in a Punjabi family. Her father is a builder. After finishing her education in St. Xavier's School and Delhi University, Nikita assisted her father in his business. She also handled her own bakeries in New Delhi.

Career[edit]
Nikita Sharma won the Miss Air Hostess Academy title in 2008. In 2012, she participated in the Indian Princess beauty pageant, which she won. She was the cover girl of the July–August 2012 issue of the Enlighten India magazine. Nikita Sharma moved to Mumbai to pursue her acting and modeling dreams. She appeared in various commercials for brands like Coca Cola, Invertis University, Giovani, TVS Scooty, Lays etc. Nikita has done several photo shoots and walked the ramp for various brands. Nikita also appeared in a music video Teri Yaad by Shahjeet Bal. She started her TV career with Channel V’s V The Serial, in which she was paired opposite Karan Kundra. Soon after, Nikita Sharma landed her first lead role in Life OK’s Do Dil Ek Jaan. She played the role of Antara, a Kashmiri girl who falls in love with Raghu, a Mumbai gangster played by Ayaz Ahmed. After Do Dil Ek Jaan, Nikita was seen in single episodes of Channel V's Confessions of an Indian Teenager, UTV Bindass' Yeh Hai Aashiqui, MTV Webbed 2 and UTV Bindass' Halla Bol.Nikita Sharma is one of those lucky few girls who come to the city of dreams with a goal and achieve it within no time.

Only a few months ago, this actress came down to Mumbai to become an actress and now has gone on to bag a high profile project on TV, Life OK’s Do Dil Ek .. Jaan (Nautanki Telefilms). She will be seen as Antara, an intelligent daddy’s girl from Kashmir, who migrates to Mumbai to accomplish a dream (seems like reel and real life merging).

We contacted the actress to know about her small screen debut and more…
Excerpts:
“Basically from Delhi, I came down to Mumbai six months ago to achieve something in life. Luckily for me, one day I auditioned for Nautanki Telefilms’ Jaan… and good for me that I was selected the next day itself. In fact after four days of me bagging the show, we had to go to Kashmir. It was hard for me to differentiate between reality and dream as all of this was happening at a rapid pace. In no time, I was in Kashmiri shooting at -6 degrees temperature. It was hard to work without a sweater in the snow all the time for a month but eventually we did. In fact, there were times when it even snowed,” informs the actress.

“As a newcomer, it’s a big break. I am thankful to be a part of a show that’s almost like a movie on TV,” Nikita quips.

Nikita is not just lucky to have bagged a lead role in her very first show on television but she also had the opportunity to work with the veteran Farooque Sheikh, as she avers, “This was Farooque sir’s debut show on TV and I got to play his daughter. He is such a natural actor and there is so much to learn from him. Apart from that, since both of us are big time foodies, we used to talk about food on and off.”

Every actor wishes for a big banner romantic film and since the promos of the show are similar to that, we asked this newcomer if it was like a dream-come-true, to which she answers, “Yes, the romance here is more like a Yash Raj and Karan Johar love story.”
Ayaz Ahmed and Nikita Sharma
Small screen actors Nikita Sharma and Ayaz Ahmed were seen in an episode of "Yeh Hai Aashiqui". They have worked together for a romantic show "Do Dil Ek Jaan". Both shares a "good chemistry".

Bridal Makeup Biography

A wedding day is an auspicious and important day in the life of every bride and it is natural for each one to want to look their fabulous best, yet retain some of their inherent everyday charm.
Use a professional makeup artist if possible. Have a pre-wedding consultation so your makeup artist already knows what you want.
Working with The Indian Bridal Makeup Artist (Hopefully Khush ;) can save you quite a bit of time but make sure you collect pictures from magazines to show the makeup artist so he or she can get an idea of the look you're going for. Keep in mind that your wedding is not the time to start experimenting -- stick to an enhanced version of your everyday self.
Schedule trial runs before your prewedding parties or other special events (friends' weddings, class reunions, etc.). Some makeup artists do charge you for these practice sessions -- so find a crowd to wow!
Take a close look at yourself a few hours after a trial makeover to check how the makeup wears on your skin. Does it last or fade away? Note any color changes or allergic reactions.
Have a facial two weeks prior to your wedding. If you’ve not had facials in the past we would recommend you start this process 3-4 months prior to your wedding.
However the below is a makeup tutorial for those who would like to do it on your own - here are the tips:
The makeup should be classy, yet not so overdone as to draw attention away from the rest of you.  Splash cold water on your face in the morning to help reduce morning puffiness.
 Moisturize:
The first of these Indian bridal makeup tips involves moisturizing. Once the face is clean and free of any excess oil or dirt, apply a sheer layer of moisturizer. This will help to hold the makeup better, and make sure that it lasts longer. You should also apply a layer of oil-based concealer under the eyes, in preparation for any tears that may arrive during or after the ceremony. Allow the makeup and concealer to set for about 20 minutes

Foundation:
Make certain your foundation is an exact match to your skin tone.  Use heavy-pigmented cream foundation and layer it with powder foundation to make the skin look smoother.  Using your fingertips or a sponge, apply a sheer but even layer of foundation. Check for any lines around your jaw bone.
(Makeup Artists will combine 2 or 3 different foundation colors to match the bride's skin tone perfectly and also possibly combine 2 or 3 different coloured concealers to conceal things like dark circles.)

Apply a matte powder all over your face; using a powder based product, this will ensure skin looks perfect in the photographs. The shine free oil control loose powder, will help control the oil that usually develops around the 'T zone'. This will last long & give it a matte look. Add a little blush; pick a peachy pink color that will look natural on you.
When you’ve applied it, dust on some loose powder to seal it all in.
If your dress has an open neckline, be sure to warm up your neck and chest with a dusting of Bronzing Powder.
 Blush:
For a pretty flush that lasts, use two shades of Blush. First, apply a neutral shade on the apples of cheeks, blending up into the hairline, then downwards to soften. Then apply a brighter shade just on the apples of cheeks.

Eyes:
If you have dark brown eyes and want to have a smokey eye effect, then focus on using deeper colors, as these complement the natural color of your eyes. For a more dramatic effect you can use colors that shimmer, but in general deep, rich, matte colors work best for dark brown eyes. Some excellent colors are purple, gray and brown.
For a perfect eye shape, use a small brush to blend a medium tone color from just below the brow arch downwards in a semi-circle motion.
Basic smokeyeye makeup uses two shades of eye shadow, one light and one dark, in order to achieve the dramatic effect. However, using three colors can really enhance the make upon brown eyes, since brown eyes are less dramatic than, say, blue eyes. Do make sure, however, that the shades you select are complementary and do not clash.
Begin by cleaning your eyelids and applying a primer. If you don’t have a primer, you can dab on a light layer of concealer or moisturizer for around the eyes. This will ensure that the makeup is absorbed better and continues to look fresh for much longer. Once you have primed your lids, line both the top and bottom lids with brown or black eye liner. Smudge the line on the bottom lid to make the effect more dramatic.
Once you begin shadowing, you will immediately see the effects of smokey eye makeup for dark eyes. Brush the lighter shadow over the entire lid, up to the brow ridge. Next, gradually blend in the darker shade, starting at the outer corner of the lid.
As you get closer to the eye crease, switch to the other, slightly lighter dark eye shadow. Blend continuously. To finish your makeup, apply a few layers of black mascara to you lashes.
The foremost tip that you must remember before applying Smokey eye makeup for dark brown eyes is to select the right colors. Choose deep, rich tones to complement and enhance the color of your eyes.
End with lining the eyes with kohl, to accentuate the look.
Lash Extensions:
Every Bride wants her eyes to pop on her wedding day. It’s all about the lashes.
The extensions are single strands of synthetic eyelashes that are curved to replicate a natural eyelash. They provide length and thickness to your own lashes and are available in varying lengths and thickness. They are applied to your individual eyelashes, one lash at a time. There is no need for mascara even though a water based mascara is fine to use. The result is thicker, longer, eye opening eyelashes that are safe in the shower, while swimming, sleeping or exercising.
Lipstick:
Use a light to medium lipstick that is long wearing. Choose a lip liner that blends easily with lipstick for that soft glossy look that looks good in photographs too. Start with a pencil lip liner. Apply from the centre and line outward; make sure you have completely outlined your lips. Lip liners help lip color stay longer and also avoid bleeding. Now fill in your lips with a moisturizing lip color, helps keep lips soft and supple and the pick a color that is most striking.
Thin and small lips look more sensuous with light lip colors while fuller lips can use deep shades. Keep the Lipstick handy to freshen up your pout after the kiss.  Add some gloss to your lips for a great impact.
Nails:
Go get yourself a manicure & pedicure! It will ensure the hands & feet look duly moisturized. Well polished and shaped nails add spark to the looks of a bride. The color of nail polish should ideally match the wedding dress of the bride. Apply it to your nails in single sweeps. Apply a base coat on the nails because it gives strength to your nails.
Remember:
Place the focus on the face either on eyes or on lip and underplay the other with neutral pink or brown shades.
Neutral and pale lip colors look washed out in photographs, so choose a lipstick that’s one to two shades brighter than what you normally wear. Pinks, roses and plums are great choices for brides.
When applying your makeup wear a button shirt that can be easily removed when its time to dress.
Get plenty of sleep, please!
Don't try anything new on your skin 7-10 days before your wedding. You don't know how your skin will react.
Well-shaped brows can open up your whole face, get them done ten days before the wedding, then two days before get them touched up or pluck the few strays yourself.
Choose a hairstyle that will suit your face shape. Round faces will look good on high ‘up dos’ and sleek long styles while long faces suit styles that have width and volume.
If your wearing sandals then about a month before your wedding start your foot treatment so your feet look as good as the rest of you.
Do not do your own makeup. Have a professional makeup artist do it. Chances are you’ve got a bit of the jitters with all the excitement which could result in you having difficulties doing your own makeu
